OUTLINE COURSE PROGRAMME – INSTITUTE OF APPLIED LINGUISTICS. First Course

ENGLISH LAW.

Week 1: Background to English law – sources, the legal profession, court structure, compare Polish Law.

Week 2: Law of Contract – creation & types of contract. Examination of Edglish documents and Polish to English translations of Polish documents including poor translations.

Week 3: Law of Contract – termination & remedies. Same comment as above as to documents.

Week 4: Company Law & Partnerships - compare Polish business entities.

Week 5: Company Law & Partnerships. Examination of documents as outlined above.

Week 6: Criminal law – classification of crimes, differences with civil court proceedings and vocabulary.

Week 7: Criminal law – continuation. Detailed axamples of English criminal documentation.

Week 8: Law of Property – freehold, leasehold usufruct & tenancies – compare Polish Law.

Week 9: Law of Property – documentation and procedures for transfer of ownership and occupation and detailed study of precedents of documents.

Week 10: Family Law – Divorce, maintenance & custody of children including appropriate English documentation

Week 11: Family Law – inheritance – testate & intestate.

Week 12: Employment Law – forms of contract for examination including translations – compare Polish Law.

Week 13: Law of Tort – different types – defamation, negligence, nuisance & Trespass; Remedies.

Week 14: EXAMINATION – 45 minutes duration. Remainder of the lesson – review of course content and questions arising. THIS IS OPTIONAL!!!!

Week 15: Examination results and feedback together with final review of course content and questions arising therefrom.
