ENGLISH LAW AND TRANSLATION COURSE.

As always the primary focus will be on texts of legal documentation, sometimes English precedents and sometimes texts in both languages. This pragmatic approach has been well received over recent years of my work. In so far as it is appropriate, I will include information about English law.
It remains true that I welcome all questions whether directly related to the particular topic of the day or not. I really feel that your questions are more important than my planning!!
Some of the material is detailed and I have opted to issue handouts for the following meeting at the end of a current session. Homework will be to peruse those documents and prepare questions. If anybody wishes to have particular homework then this can be set in the nature of typical exercises relating to vocabulary.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO ME THAT YOU NOW FEEL FREE TO COMMENT ON THE PROPOSED PROGRAMME AND INDICATE IF THE ARE ANY ISSUESS OMITTED OR SOME THAT ARE PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT. Please bear in mind that I cannot please all of the people all of the time!!!

N.B.

  1. I propose to deal with some aspects of British culture from time to time as it may arise naturally from the context, in any specific issues raised during the question sessions and probably as a source of light relief :) :)
  2. The above programme contains a formidable amount of material and maybe we will not be able to cover everything. I will be issuing handouts for the next meeting at the conclusion of each meeting in the hope that as “homework” you will be able to read or at least scan the documents for points of interest.
  3. I have perused all the material in the Tepis book “Selection of English Documents” and identified some matters of interest but I really need your help. Those of you who have this book, please look at it and identify problems you may have as it is not easy to be a mind reader!
Let me be fair and say the English for The Deed of Partnership, The Memorandum and Articles of Association and the translation of the Power of Attorney are excellent. One or two of the American vocabulary is tricky but I refer them to our American professor to see if he can illuminate the matters.
  4. All is negotiable and I welcome any pro or anti comments on the programme outlined above.
